The Golden Coast

Watsonville, California

Last week I was in Ocean City, NJ with my future in-laws, playing cards, going to the boardwalk and jumping waves. Exactly a week later I find myself on the west coast at yet another beach. I am still with family but a much different vacation. We are staying in a beautiful house with a roof balcony (perfect for taking sunset pictures). We are staying in a little community of beach houses that are seconds from the beach. Now, we all have a vision of the beach in our minds…lots of people, umbrellas, lifeguards, seagulls. Erase that from your minds. This beach has no lifeguards, no umbrellas, hardly any people and no seagulls, but it does have pelicans. If you are the type of person who comes to the beach to read, this is the place to be. No one bothers you about beach tags and you can swim wherever you want! This water holds beautiful creatures, so far we have seen sea otters and dolphins along with the mass amount so of pelicans. Another amazing discovery that I witnessed this week was sand dollars. I had never seen one in real life let alone a live one. It was one of the most amazing things I have seen. This beach is full of life, life I’ve never seen before.

I love to watch the sunset and the sunrise. I have experienced an east coast sunrise and sunset but never a west coast sunrise or sunset until this week. Watching the sun set over the water is spectacular! The colors have been beautiful reflecting off the water. There is so much beauty in this place. Sorry for quality – they are iPhone photos.

The view from the balcony! The view from the balcony!

Before we took this excursion to the beach we spend time in Oakland, California. Here we discovered a fascinating ice cream place called Smitten. They make their ice cream using Nitrogen!

This vacation so far has been so wonderful. I have spent so much time with my amazing family and got to spend so much time in the sun. Traveling is one of my favorite things to do and I am so lucky to have the chance to do this. The only thing that would make it better was if Josiah was here!
