Caleb & Callie
We adore these two! They’ve become incredibly close friends of ours since Josiah met them last year at Tyler & Becca’s wedding in Colorado where Caleb was a groomsmen. They are two of the sweetest people, so caring and kind, not to mention hilarious, goofy, and energetic. We feel so honored to have been there to photograph this milestone in their lives and cannot wait to (hopefully) be there for many others! They are both not native to PA (PA = Pennsylvania for those who thought I said Pa, like Papa). Callie is from Grand Rapids, Michigan and Caleb is all the way from Australia… way dan unda! Callie’s currently in PA School (this time PA means Physicians Assistant) at Salus University in Philly and Caleb came to visit for two weeks for Thanksgiving since the Aussies don’t celebrate that wonderful holiday. Caleb & Callie met a few years ago while in Hawaii as students with YWAM (Youth With A Mission). They traveled the world together serving people in Jesus’ name and by the time it was over, they were inseparable.
The Story
Caleb told me that he was planning on coming for a few weeks during Thanksgiving to apply for some journalism jobs and to… propose! We definitely didn’t expect him to say that, but we were over the moon! So Caleb & I got talking. How was an Australian who has never set foot in PA going to propose to his long time girlfriend who has hardly any free time due to studying and also isn’t from around here? It had to be nearby and it had to be disguised. Big trips were out of the questions and they didn’t have a special “spot” so we ended up taking them to ours. Valley Forge National Park was where Steph and I spent a lot of time while we were dating. It’s also where I proposed to her a few years ago. Caleb & I planned on having a “fake” shoot disguised as a promotional video shoot for Steph & I (which it was), but this way we were able to capture the proposal on video and photos without her ever knowing. She still thought the proposal was 2 years away! We brought them to a more secluded spot in a field. Steph took Callie and photographed some individual shots of her while I slipped the ring to Caleb (If you’ve ever put a ring box in your pocket, you’ll notice that it is gigantic and impossible to hide). We brought them back together, chest to chest and asked Caleb to tell Callie a few reasons why he loves her. We’re sure he’s done this before, but this time it ended with him on one knee and a ring in his hand. She was floored, stunned, shocked! Her hands went to her mouth and tears started to flow as we stood there photographing everything and smiling almost as big as they were! It’s moments like this that make us so happy to do what we do! Of course, she said yes! The shoot started as a couples session and ended as an engagement session! One of the best days of 2016!
Caleb & Callie, we love you both so much and can’t wait for you guys to finally be married and not be long distance! We know it’s terribly difficult! Caleb you need to get back to the US pronto! We hope you enjoy some of our favorites from you couples shoot/proposal/engagement session!
