Caleb & Callie
A Navy & Cranberry Backyard Wedding in Grand Rapids, Michigan
We can’t believe we’re finally writing this post! Actually, we’re not really sure what exactly to write. There’s far to much we could say about Caleb & Callie. They are two of our very best friends who we would do anything for. I do hope they already know that considering we drove Callie’s car, dubbed The White Bomb as I heard it referred, 11 hours from Michigan to Philly on Monday after their wedding.
Caleb & Callie are finally done with long distance! When we say long distance, we don’t mean they lived 6 hours apart for the majority of their relationship. We mean that Callie lived in the United States and Caleb lived in Australia. The complete opposite side of the world. They’re 13 1/2 hours ahead of the U.S. making communication tricky. They had very small windows of time they actually got to speak with one another because the other person would be sleeping. We can finally say that season of their relationship is officially over!
I (Josiah) met Caleb & Callie two years ago at Tyler & Becca’s wedding in Colorado. We hit it off and stayed in touch ever since. Last August, Callie moved from Grand Rapids to Philly to begin studying as a Physician’s Assistant at Salus University. We watched her work her butt off and study hundreds of hours. We’d often steal her away for Mexican food and Margaritas as a stress reliever that would turn into an 8 hour hangout and conversation. We loved spending time with her.
Caleb was planning on coming in November to visit for a few weeks. He messaged me on Facebook saying he was ready to propose so we began planning. We took them to Valley Forge National Park, where I proposed to Steph, and covered the proposal under the idea that we were shooting promotional film for our business (which we still did). We made it to a point in the shoot where I slipped Caleb the ring box as Steph took some individual portraits of Callie. I told them to come chest to chest and queued Caleb that it was his turn. He gave a little speech, got down on one knee and to Callie’s surprise, he proposed! She couldn’t believe it! She didn’t expect a proposal for quite some time, but was over the moon that it finally happened!
This wedding was so incredibly fun! Callie had the vision already for what she wanted her backyard wedding at her home in Grand Rapids to look like. She wanted to get married by her pond in her backyard and did just that under an arch of beautiful red flowers and greenery. The reception was under a large tent in her front yard that fit all of her friends and family (thank God because it started raining just after the ceremony)!
We wore many different hats during their wedding. We were photographers and videographers, along with doing a little bit of time keeping and Josiah was in the wedding! That meant that Steph needed to shoot photo and video by herself for the ceremony. She nailed it! It was such an honor to be a part of the wedding and in it as well. I like to describe Caleb as the Australian version of me, in which I think Callie & Caleb would probably agree.
Choosing a favorite part from the day isn’t really possible. We loved all of the little moments, however, the ceremony stands out the most. We loved watching Caleb’s parents lead the ceremony with his dad giving the sermon and his mother officiating their marriage. As she pronounced them as husband and wife and watched her son kiss his bride, her smile was as big as it could get. Callie & Caleb’s smiles throughout the ceremony was adorable and our hearts were just so full from watching two of our dearest friends finally be married.
To Caleb & Callie:
We love you both so much! Thank you for trusting us to shoot photo, video and be in the wedding! Not many people would be cool with that, but you guys had so much faith in us and it all worked out! We loved meeting both of your families and all of your friends. You are all so much fun! We can’t wait till you guys get back to Philly so we can grab a bite and hear all about your adventures in Key West! You’re snorkeling as I write this and I can’t say I’m not jealous. We love you both and hope you enjoy some of our favorites from your wedding day!
