Fonthill Castle Engagement Session

We had such a beautiful backdrop with the most glowing, gorgeous light for Brendon + Lorna’s engagement session at Fonthill Castle in Doylestown, PA earlier this week. These two had such natural smiles that it made the process incredibly easy. I know that Brendon wasn’t necessarily nervous before the session. Lorna might’ve felt a little awkward at first because she couldn’t stop laughing for the first few minutes. To be completely honest, I love when that happens. It allows me to see what their real smiles look like so I can call them on their fake ones later after they’ve been smiling for the last hour. The first photo in this blog is actually one of Lorna’s “I’m feeling awkward” smile. They actually make for great photos, so just lean into that awkward feeling and laugh at it. Needless to say, Brendon + Lorna both did a wonderful job in front of camera. We absolutely love the way the photos turned out!

Q: How Did The Proposal Happen?

Lorna: We got engaged November 23, 2019 on a little weekend getaway to Hershey, Pa where we stayed at the Hotel Hershey. This was our first time staying in a very fancy hotel and was a treat to us. I was under the impression that we were going to see the Christmas light displays there and spend some time with my cousins who were in the area. I did not expect Brendon to propose at all. During the day, the girls went shopping while Brendon stayed in the hotel scouting out the perfect spot. When we got back from shopping he was a little stir crazy from being inside alone all day, so he asked if I wanted to go for a walk outside.

Brendon and I went out for a walk into the courtyard. It was super cold, so I was in a hurry to get back inside. I realized he wasn’t following me so I looked back and he was down on one knee in the middle of these beautiful fountains. Immediately, I started crying and actually said “no” a few times out of shock before finally saying “yes!” Honestly, I kind of blacked out. I just remember being very happy and in awe that I had no inkling that it was going to happen. I just couldn’t wait to tell our friends and family. Who wouldn’t want to get proposed to at “the sweetest place on earth” where you are surrounded by everything chocolate? After he proposed, there was a lot of good food, Christmas lights, champagne, and chocolate. The next morning we woke up to the first snow of the season. All of my favorite things. It was perfect!

Q: What’s been your favorite part about being engaged?

Lorna: My favorite part about being engaged is planning our wedding because I finally see all the wedding ideas I’ve dreamed about since I was a little kid becoming a reality. It is interesting to see Brendon have his own ideas and what he likes/ dislikes. We want to combine what we both want so it is our special day together. Our engagement session was also so enjoyable because it took us both out of our comfort zone a little being it was our first time getting our pictures professionally taken.

Q: What advice do you have for future couples planning their wedding?

I really haven’t done a ton of planning yet aside from hiring our vendors, but I would say just do what feels right for you as a couple and don’t worry about what everyone else thinks or wants.

To Brendon + Lorna:

We loved hanging with you guys for a few hours at Fonthill Castle. Thanks for picking such a great spot for an engagement session. We can’t wait for your wedding and to show you the rest of your gorgeous engagement photos, but until then, we hope you enjoy a little sneak peek of some of our favorites!
