Paul & Caroline
We popped down to Washington DC for a little weekend getaway. While they we met up with Paul and Caroline at the National Gallery of Art for a morning engagement session. This was our first time at the museum and it was gorgeous! The architecture, the colors, the paintings and sculptures all made for perfect backdrops. There were literally no bad shooting locations. The difficult was finding what rooms we wanted to spend more time in over others. Ten out of ten would shoot here again and now we need to go back and spend a full day in the museum looking at all the artwork. Paul and Caroline were naturals in front of the camera, and we had so much fun with them. The session flew by and we truly cannot wait to shoot with them again later this year at their wedding!
Q: How did the proposal happen? Give us the story!
We knew we wanted to get married for quite a while, but when we decided it was time to actually move toward an engagement, Caroline gave Paul a few ideas for the ring and left the rest in his hands! We had planned a much-needed vacation to the Dominican Republic for March 2024. In the lead-up to the trip, many friends asked Caroline if she thought Paul would propose on the trip— which she thought was 50-50! On the second day of our trip, Paul started pushing for an evening walk to a particular part of the beach which certainly raised suspicions. During our walk, it started pouring down rain and we had to dash under an umbrella. We waited out the storm there chatting and having a good time, both of us a bit nervous. Once the rain passed, we finished our walk and Paul got down on one knee! Because of the rain, no one else was out and we had the entire beach to ourselves. Then we spent the rest of the trip relaxing on the beach and celebrating our engagement!
Q: What’s the best part about being engaged?
People have finally stopped asking us when we are getting married! 🙂 In all seriousness, our favorite part of being engaged is thinking about the next stage of our life and working on a big project (wedding planning) together!
Q: Any advice for other couples who are planning their wedding?
First, hire Josiah and Steph for your photos! After our engagement shoot, we feel even more confident in our decision and can’t wait to work with them on the big day. Second, decide early what kind of wedding you want. Planning a bigger wedding is a lot of work (and money) so having both partners on board and excited about the process was essential to us. After that, remember that there are no rules for your wedding and you should do what will make you happy!
To Paul & Caroline:
You guys! We love the way these photos are turning out! You both crushed the session! We can’t wait for the wedding later this year and to see you guys again. We’re finishing up with the full gallery from your session, but until then, we hope you enjoy this little preview from your National Gallery of Art engagement session!
