Why They’re Essential

Window light. It’s something that makes small spaces look bigger, brighter and more beautiful. Imagine a room with no window light and all lamps and overhead lighting. It’d be pretty bland, sad and you’d probably feel like you were trapped back in high school geography… Window light makes us happier.

To us, window light is a vital part of our job as wedding photographers. We think that it is essential for your getting ready area to have a window or two, that way you get beautiful portraits getting ready on your wedding day. Just a single window in your getting ready room (although, the more there are the better) can make a bland portrait into a beautiful one!

Window light is typically really soft light that makes your skin look soft and radiant. At every wedding, we shoot your details in front of a window and we photograph your mom and maid of honor helping you into your dress in front of the window. Sometimes the light is so nice that we can even manage a few bridal portraits right there, too! Sure we can use flash, but it’s more intrusive and honestly, won’t ever look quite as good as a huge window…

…so the next time you’re out searching for that getting ready location, make sure it has at least one window for you to get ready near.
