I took the long drive out from Philadelphia to Island Beach State earlier this week for an engagement session, and it was so worth it! I met Joe and Sara in the parking lot near the trailhead to the ocean. While they had their hesitations about shooting, I had a good feeling about what we were going to capture. The bummer in all of this is that a huge cloud rolled in just as we were about to shoot. We completely lost the sun. We were left with a stormy looking cloud that had us nervous about the rain. On a positive note, it did mean that I didn’t have to worry so much lighting and what direction in which we could shoot.
After a few minutes, Sara and Joe started to warm up to the camera as we played some photo games and they reacted to the prompts I gave them. I’m sure they found most of these prompts utterly ridiculous and absurd, but I do love the photos and moments they created. If it weren’t for those ridiculous prompts, the smiles wouldn’t be as genuine as they are. Joe and Sara chose an awesome location at Island Beach State Park. Not only that, but they also chose one of the most beautiful venues in the Philly area for their wedding, and that is the Anthony Wayne House. We got to shoot Frank + Kait’s wedding there in 2017. It was then that it became a venue that we desperately wanted to shoot at again. Thankfully, we’ll get that chance again soon.
To Joe + Sara
I loved spending the evening shooting with you both. Thanks for going along with all of my weird prompts and just letting loose! I had a blast with you guys and cannot wait for your wedding at the Anthony Wayne House later this year! It’s going to be awesome! Until then, we hope you enjoy some of our favorites from your engagement session.
