Nick + Courtney are two of the luckiest people I’ve met in regards to their wedding day at The Lake House Inn. The day began with blue sky, the sun beaming down on us and a light breeze off the water. We knew the radar was calling for a chance of rain around 6pm. Thankfully, Nick and Courtney decided to share in a first look and see one another before the ceremony. We photographed their portraits, bridal party and were halfway through their family portraits before it started to rain. This wasn’t just a light rain either. This was a bit more of a downpour on and off for nearly 45 minutes. From quarter to six all the way until 6:30pm, when their ceremony was scheduled to begin, we wondered if this would stop in time.
Nick and Courtney decided to push their ceremony back until 6:45pm as the radar said the rain would cease. Sure enough, at 6:35pm that blue sky we saw at the beginning of the day returned. The ceremony turned out to be one of the most beautifully lit ceremonies we’ve ever photographed. The golden light beamed through the trees and a foggy mist hovered over the lake behind Nick and Courtney as they declared their vows to one another. It was what this couple deserved as they’re both so caring and genuine. We were so relieved that the rain stopped for them. They desperately wanted the view at The Lake House Inn and they certainly got one.

[…] Put the sun behind your officiant. That’s right! We want to shoot towards the sun in most situations. The sun doesn’t need to be directly behind the officiant. It can be anywhere from 0 degrees to 45 degrees behind them. This will result in flattering light on your faces and will make your photos look much more dreamy and beautiful. Even better, if you can get the sun behind your officiant and shining through some trees then this will create a golden glow in the trees behind you and soften the light even more. […]
