A Springtime Engagement in Rittenhouse Square

Julia + Colin

Colin + Julia decided to have their engagement session take place in Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia, PA. They also just happened to choose the most perfect day because the weather was unbelievably wonderful and the trees were finally in bloom. It was perfect. We even popped down to one of their favorite restaurants, Pub & Kitchen on Lombard Street. Julia + Colin were both naturals in front of camera. They are so good that we it was very little work posing them! They were all over each other the entire time. It was great! Thanks for making our job extra easy!

Q: How did he propose?

Colin filled my December weekend dates with mysterious calendar invites titled, “C&J Quality Time.” I had no idea what this meant since every night is “quality time” in quarantine. That said, the first Saturday in December rolled around and Colin told me he planned a special date. He led me through a magical tour of Philly’s best Christmas lights, from Love Park to the Comcast Center and to Rittenhouse Square, dotted with strings of lights. From there, Colin told me our last step would be on Addison Street where he got down one knee… to tie his shoe, and then looked up at me and said, “Gotcha!” Somehow, Colin survived that moment and I found a way to laugh it off, getting used to the fact that I was not in control!

Luckily, the following night, Colin organized another tour of Philly lights, this time by the stadiums and throughout South Philly. At this point, I – who am fully relaxed – complained about my feet hurting from wearing very cute, but uncomfortable shoes unfit for winter weather. As I hurried back home with Colin, our home came into view: champagne on the stoop, votive candles in the shape of a heart, and our favorite song filling the air from a hidden speaker. Before Colin was even on one knee, I started crying and forgot to say ‘yes’ for several seconds but, ultimately and very happily, accepted. We ended the night with a celebration of champagne on our roof-deck.

Q: What’s been your favorite part about being engaged?

Our favorite part has been knowing that this phase of our lives together is fleeting; the anticipation of merging our lives fully, but also relishing the present moment of planning for this big celebration with our closest family and friends.

Q: Any advice for couples planning their own weddings?

Colin: Book your venue before you get engaged… if you happen to be getting engaged during a pandemic. Julia: Reflect on your priorities and stick to them. Wedding planning can drag you in so many different directions so be clear on your top items.

To Julia + Colin:

We had the best time with you both! You were complete naturals! We actually couldn’t believe how great you were in front of camera. Can’t wait to do it all again later this year and celebrate with you at the wedding! Until then, we hope you enjoy some of our favorites from your engagement session in Rittenhouse Square.
