Evening Engagement in Old City, Philadelphia

Christian + Meghan

We met up with Christian and Meghan for their evening engagement in Old City, Philadelphia. We bounced between two places: The Merchant Exchange Building, and The Plough & The Stars. It was as beautiful of an evening as could be with wonderful October weather and great, evening light! Both Christian and Meghan were naturals right off the bat! I’m sure they wouldn’t admit to that, but having photographed quite a lot of couples, these two eased right into the session and crushed it in front of camera. We’re sure they’re going to kill it again on the wedding day and we can’t wait for that next year!

Q: Tell us the proposal story! How did it all go down?

Christian popped the question on January 22, 2022! Life and work was a little hectic for both of us, so we had talked about having a date day for ourselves to reset. Christian is a big dessert guy and wanted to try a great spot that a co-worker told him about, so we decided to head into the city. We arrived at Reading Terminal and the place was closed (fyi, not part of his plan). He said, “let’s just go home, let our dog out, and then get dinner close to home”. I thought we were heading home until Christian said, “let’s go to our old spot since it has been a while”.

This made me suspicious that something was up! Although it wasn’t abnormal, since we use to go to “our spot” near Water Works a lot when we started dating. I was always anxiously awaiting Christians proposal so the thought did cross my mind that it might finally be happening!

On our walk down we spotted a photographer so I thought, “wow, this is definitely it!”. We got to our normal spot and we were talking for what seemed like a long time if he was going to propose. What I didn’t know at the time was that Christian was trying to stall because he didn’t see our friend who was going to photograph the proposal. Christian had just put his hand in his jacket to pull out the ring and 12 feet behind him another person proposed to his girlfriend at the exact same time! I immediately screamed congratulations (I have always loved proposals) and started clapping for them. Christian’s face was in awe – shocked. The other couple totally stole the show for that minute.

90 seconds later, Christian said “I’m sorry, I know you have been waiting, but your time will come soon, I promise.” In my head, I was thinking WTF and felt certain it was NOT happening. He caught me by surprise and got down on one knee and made me the happiest girl! I screamed “yes” a hundred times and was filled with the happiest tears. We could not stop laughing at the fact that the other couple proposed seconds before him. The photographer we saw earlier walking down was for the other couple. It was a roller coaster of emotions but it made for the greatest proposal story. It was perfect and our amazing friend made it to photograph the whole thing. We went back to our house and celebrated with our parents and siblings! It was truly the best day!

Q: What’s been your favorite part about being engaged?

As cliché as it sounds we love being able to call each other Fiancé!! We also love the fact that we are one chapter closer to our wedding day!!

Q: What advice do you have for future couples planning their own weddings?

Our advice would be to enjoy the planning process because it really does fly by! What worked best for us was something we started calling Wedding Wednesdays! With the help of an easy dinner and lots of wine, we used Wednesday nights as a dedicated time to talk and plan about whatever we needed to conquer that week. It was an easy way to focus and keep it fun! Wedding Wednesdays will always be something we think back on and smile when we talk about our planning process.
