Fall Engagement in Old City, Philadelphia

Mike & Liz

We had the best time with Mike & Liz the other night during their fall engagement in Old City, Philadelphia! This is such a wonderful place for engagement session. Old City has so much history and is such a charming place with beautiful architecture and backdrops. Only difficulty is avoiding people in the background, and we certainly needed to do that as we saw three or four different weddings and wedding parties wandering around the space. As we said, it’s an incredible spot for photography. Mike and Liz are both so sweet and were so easy to photograph. They constantly posed themselves, made each other laugh, and just seemed to be having a great time without us even having to coach them. It made our job a breeze and makes us so excited for their wedding next year!

Q: How did the proposal happen?

A: Mike proposed on August 14, 2021. He made brunch plans and convinced me to walk around Water Works beforehand (mind you it was 90 degrees that day). I had a slight inkling that something special was about to happen. The week before, Mike had been cleaning the apartment…a lot. He also happened to buy a party pack of plates and silverware “just in case” as he told me. When we arrived to Water Works, Mike began to share memories and all the reasons he loved me…. and I knew right away. Mike got down on one knee in front of the tree at Water Works and I immediately said yes, without even seeing the ring. We hugged and kissed and then Mike asked me if she wanted the ring! Our best friends (now our Maid of Honor and Best Man) were hiding to document the special moment. After the proposal, Mike surprised me with both of our families for a lunch at the Moshulu. My family lives in the Midwest so it was a very special moment to see everyone there! After lunch, Mike worked with our friends to plan a party at our apartment to celebrate. All the cleaning and the party pack of plates made sense. We were very blessed with all of our friends and family being a part of our day and I am incredibly grateful for the work and love Mike put into our engagement day!

Q: What’s been your favorite part about being engaged?

A: We have both enjoyed wedding planning! It’s been a fun process and has allowed us to do and try new things like looking at venues and florals. We continue to learn so much about each other, not just for our wedding, but our future lives together! We have seen our relationship and partnership in action through the wedding planning process.

Q: Any advice for other couples planning their own weddings?

A: Our biggest commitment to each other at the start of wedding planning was to not be stressed about the wedding or the planning process. And we are so far, so good! We have held each other accountable to this and supported each other through the whole process. Our advice: talk about what is important to both of you in the wedding planning process and keep coming back to it.

To Mike + Liz:

We had such an incredible time with you the other evening! You both crushed it and made our jobs so easy! Your joy and smiles are contagious and it was so wonderful documenting that. We can’t wait to do it all over again on the wedding day! Until then, we hope you enjoy this sneak peek from your fall engagement in Old City, Philadelphia!
