Tropical Wedding Weekend in Cancún

Michael & Abbie

Michael & Abbie’s tropical wedding weekend in Cancún, Mexico wasn’t just a wedding, it was an epic few days filled with love, laughter, and unforgettable moments. Held at Dreams Riviera Cancún, this destination wedding doubled as a Blizzard family vacation, making it even more special. Abbie is Josiah’s brother’s sister-in-law, but to us, Michael and Abbie are extended siblings. Watching them say “I do” was pure magic.

A Weekend to Remember

The trip kicked off with sun-soaked pool days, incredible food, and drinks. Guests relaxed, caught up, and enjoyed paradise. Michael and Abbie welcomed everyone with drinks, light bites, and heartfelt toasts on the patio for their welcome night. The energy was warm, intimate, and full of joy.

The next evening, we gathered for the rehearsal dinner at El Patio, the resort’s Mexican restaurant. It was a perfect night, until our son, Jack, and his cousin got sick. We spent the night tending to a vomiting toddler, somehow rallying for the wedding the next day. Huge thanks to Steph’s mom and friend, Nancy, for taking care of Jack on the wedding day. Without them, we couldn’t have done it.

The Wedding Day

The weather was flawless. We’re talking clear skies, warm sunshine, and a soft ocean breeze. Abbie got ready with her girls, sister, and mom, while Michael prepped with his brothers, dad, and friends. Their first look was filled with joy, their smiles impossibly big as they saw each other.

Before the ceremony, they shared a unique dual family reveal. Abbie unveiled her look to Michael’s family, while Michael revealed his dapper look to Abbie’s family. Everyone joined together in one giant, love-filled hug.

The ceremony took place on the beach at sunset, overlooking the ocean. Michael held it together until his vows, where tears finally fell. He hugged Abbie multiple times throughout as his love overflowed. Abbie’s father, Steve, officiated, making the moment even more personal. As they were pronounced husband and wife, Michael was literally jumping for joy, setting the tone for the celebration ahead.

A Colorful, Joy-Filled Reception

Guests walked along the beach to cocktail hour, dressed in vibrant colors per Michael and Abbie’s request. The reception was al fresco, beneath glowing lights, with a colorful dance floor illuminating the night. Their first dance featured cold sparklers shooting into the sky, making for a breathtaking moment.

Then, the dance party exploded. Every guest hit the floor, showing off epic moves and keeping the energy through the hypothetical roof. But the grand finale? A spontaneous dip in the ocean. Friends, family, and yes, even us, jumped into the waves, celebrating in the most unforgettable way.

Michael & Abbie’s wedding was more than a wedding. It was a once-in-a-lifetime celebration. We wouldn’t change a single thing… except maybe the toddler stomach bug.
