I (Josiah) was in 3rd grade when the plane hit those buildings. I was only eight years old and cannot remember much from that day. I’m not really even sure if any of the teachers told us what happened or if we got out of school early to return home to be with our families.
I walked through the carport attached to our house around 3:30pm. It was warm, bright, and sunny and the carport provided much needed shade, although the warm breeze felt nice. I opened the squeaky screen door at the end of the carport and entered into the ugly enclosed porch that screamed at you with it’s bright green carpet. I knew something was up because my parents were watching TV outside. They never did this because we didn’t had a tv outside until today. I was at first excited because who wouldn’t love to be outside & watch TV at the same time… that was until I saw what was on the screen. A plane crashing into a building. I didn’t quite understand what was going on or what it meant. I definitely didn’t understand why someone would do that. I’m still not entirely sure of that answer 13 years later.
I am fortunate enough to not know anyone who lost their lives that day, although I know people who do. Just as FDR said about Pearl Harbor all those years ago, September 11th, 2001 will also be “a date which will live in infamy.” We will never forget & our country will never be the same.
God Bless America
